Make a cubby in two seconds and still go camping (at home!)

SHEET OVER A TABLE – IMMEDIATE CUBBY!

All young children (and older) love a cubby, a place to hide and imagine. Did you know that you can transform your dining room table (or outside garden table) into a cubby in two seconds?

Just go to the cupboard and get out a large sheet and place it over the table with a picnic blanket underneath, cushions, a little snack and some books/toys. Stand back and watch your young child delight in their new home! This will create new play at home, as we are all over the world on home-stays! Try it today…

ALSO, has been a period of a lot of change with children (and adult stress). To cocoon for a while, with parents too (read books, relax), can help the nervous system!

PUT YOUR TENT UP AT HOME

Also, it is Easter soon and in Australia we love to go camping and we cannot leave our homes! Remember that children LOVE and are happy to camp in the garden! Or even the lounge room! Put the tent up and play camping, even cook your tea on the stove! And, if you feel like camp the night! Children love to sleep in tents inside too!

Play: Creating Farmyard Fences (with your child)

It has been time for pruning and collecting fallen limbs. Saw into blocks and then let your child sandpaper and beeswax with you to make lovely fences for their play farm animals. Thank you to Ophelia who made this farm for us to see her wooden blocks!

Play Idea: Postperson

Provide your child with a special post bag (have a look in the op shop) or trolley, then your child can collect the mail each day from your letter box (maybe on their post bike!). Simple daily activities (rhythms) can bring joy to the lives of children.

Play Tip – ‘roles’

Give your child a ‘role/job’ to achieve daily tasks in a playful manner “Do I have a removal man in the room?” –putting the toys away; “Do I have a chef in the room?” – helping with cooking; “Do I have a swimmer in the room?” – to get in the bath; “Do I have a post person in the room?” to go to the post box; “Do I have a waitress in the room?” – laying the table.
